This January, RevolutionEyes had the privilege of participating in a profoundly meaningful mission to Jordan. Partnering with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, we set out to bring essential medical care to Syrian and Palestinian refugees. Each day brought unique challenges, poignant moments, and a renewed sense of purpose, illustrating the life-changing impact of collaborative healthcare efforts. Here's an account of our six-day journey:

Day 1: Supporting Cancer Patients from Gaza:
Our mission began with over 350 cancer patients who had been forced to flee Gaza due to the ongoing conflict. RevolutionEyes addressed the ocular needs of these individuals by arranging spectacles for those with refractive errors, treating dry eye concerns, and referring patients requiring surgery to specialised hospitals. Funds raised by the team were used to assist with surgeries and distributed to those in critical need.
One particularly moving moment was a heartfelt message from Mahmoud Ashour Abu Al-Baraa, a representative of the children of Gaza. His words of gratitude underscored the immense impact of our work: "You are an example of true humanity. Indeed, you are our support."

Day 2: Irbid - Bringing Eye Care to Children:
In Irbid, near the Syrian border, we examined over 140 patients, 50% of whom were children attending their first-ever eye tests. Many were found to have untreated astigmatism caused by persistent eye rubbing and itching. Several complex pathologies, including third nerve palsy and suspected glaucoma, were identified and referred for further care. The day highlighted the critical need for early intervention and regular eye care.

Day 3: At-Tiwal al-Janubi - Addressing Basic Eye Health:
On the third day, we travelled to At-Tiwal al-Janubi, a region deprived of fundamental healthcare. The majority of patients were children with untreated refractive errors or high astigmatism. Thankfully, there were few severe pathologies, but cases of keratoconus and cataracts were detected. Simple measures like prescribing reading spectacles brought immense relief to adults, underscoring the transformative power of accessible eye care.

Day 4: Returning to Irbid:
We revisited Irbid, this time focusing on Syrian refugee families. The day included comprehensive health assessments: children underwent dental check-ups, general medical screenings, and eye examinations conducted by optometrists and orthoptists. The clinic exemplified the holistic nature of our mission, integrating medical disciplines to provide all-encompassing care.
One unforgettable moment involved a child who greeted us with a radiant smile after receiving glasses. Another young patient, fresh from a dental extraction, reminded us of the resilience and courage of these communities.

Day 5: Dhilail - A Day of Reflection:
In Dhilail, we encountered families living in extremely challenging conditions, many in makeshift tents. Our team cared for patients ranging from 3-month-old infants to elderly individuals, addressing a spectrum of medical needs. A particularly emotional moment was arranging a life-saving C-section for a woman unable to afford the procedure for her unborn twins.
Throughout the day, we distributed essential supplies, such as food parcels, toothpaste, and clothing, which brought comfort to the families we served. The experience was a powerful reminder of the blessings we often take for granted.

Day 6: Dayr Al Kahf - Bringing Hope to Refugees:
Our final day brought us to Dayr Al Kahf, a village near the Syrian border. The day’s efforts were dedicated to providing medical care and distributing necessities, including food packs, hot meals, and stationery for children. From an ocular perspective, we examined and treated as many patients as possible, addressing urgent issues and delivering glasses to those in need.
The collective efforts of our team made a significant impact, restoring hope and dignity to resilient individuals who have endured unimaginable hardships.

A Global Commitment to Change:
This journey to Jordan underscored RevolutionEyes' dedication to making a global difference. By providing specialised eye care to vulnerable communities, we continue to advocate for the transformative power of accessible healthcare. These experiences not only shape our mission but also remind us of the humanity and resilience that bind us all.
To everyone who supported this initiative, thank you for helping RevolutionEyes make a meaningful impact on a global scale.
